The Weather

Alicate enjoys a mild climate all year round. The city benefits from around of 2,800 hours of sunshine with an average temperature of 19.3ºC. With fresh air and sunny days, Alicante is an ideal place to visit all year round. As it enjoys more sunshine, the number of rainy days is limited to just 20 per year. Even during the winter time the temperature does not fall below 16° C. The best time to visit Alicante is between May and October as the weather is warm and sunny. The temperature can get as high as 40°C in August.  The Costa Blanca is recognised by the World Health Organisation as one of the healthiest places to live on earth.

Gran Alacant

The Gran Alacant resort is growing, new shops and restaurants are opening regularly.  Whether you are looking for a summer holiday or winter break you will find the perfect getaway in Gran Alacant.  Gran Alacant is an urbanisation of Santa Pola, a typical Spanish town located about 3km away.  It has one of the largest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean and during the Roman era served as a sea port to the city of Elche, which is located further inland.  The town has beaches, a marina, plenty of shops, tapas bars and restaurants complete with a fort in it's centre.  During September the world wind-surfing championships are held on one of the towns beaches.

The resort has shops, restaurants and banks within easy walking distance.  Our community has its own pool complex set in beautiful gardens, complete with adjacent sports facilities consisting of a ball court for tennis, basketball and football, you will also find boules pits and a toddler play area.  Both are located at the bottom of the street from the house and access is by key.  It is for the exclusive use of villa owners and of course, our guests.  During the peak season the pool has life and security guards and therefore closed between 3 and 5pm for siesta.  Generally the pool is open at 9 am through to 10pm all year round.

Bus and Land Train Time Table Programes

Gran Alacant is on a bus route between Santa Pola (1.50€) and Alicante (1.60€).  Service is hourly and ideal for shopping, a day out in Alicante City or lazy trip to the beach.  Alicante is a busy and vibrant city with a marina containing many bars and clubs, castle (Castillo de Santa Barbara) - well worth a visit, major shopping centre and night club district.  A walk through the old district below the castle will reveal architecture of interest and resturants at every turn.  There are shops for all in Alicante, I had never seen so many shoe shops until I went shopping in Santa Pola closer to the house.

The province of Alicante comprises of two main areas, the Upper Marina and Lower marina. The Upper marina includes towns such as Calpe, Teulada and Javea. The Lower Marina which centres round Benidorm includes towns such as Altea and Villajoyosa. Towns in the inland area include Elche, Movelda and Aspe and the maritime towns in the southern area include Torreveija and Guardamar.
The most popular beach visited by holiday makers, and frequently referred to as being one of the best beaches in Spain, is the San Juan, which is located by the city of Alicante.

The Land Train was launched in 2009.  It takes a route around Gran Alacant and stops are 10 minutes apart a curcuit costs 1.20€ per person, you can get off and resume your journey at any point and time on the same ticket.  It's a great way to get to the beach and back or to see all around the resort.  Our stop is at the Health Centre.
